Evaluation of Biomarkers and Bioindicators for Fundulus heteroclitus in a Contimated and Reference Location

A series of studies will be carried out to examine a chemical impacted population of killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus) and fish from a reference location.  It is hypothesized that fish living in a chronically impacted area will have decreased fitness for successful reproduction.  Reproductive based parameters will be examined at both the molecular/cellular level and at the whole organism.    The impact(s) of contaminants on population based parameters will be used to assess any deleterious effect on the contaminated population when compared to the reference populations. This research will provide managers with tools to assess direct impact at the population level when comparing similar contaminated estuaries.
